Sunday 7th July was a glorious morning in Norfolk as Boston Triathlon attended the Outlaw Half Holkham. Set in the majestic grounds of the historic Holkham Estate, Outlaw Half Holkham is without doubt one of the UK’s most spectacular triathlon events.
The 18th century Holkham Hall, family home of the Earls of Leicester of Holkham, provides a truly stunning backdrop to the swim, both transitions and the run course, while the single loop bike course took participants on an unforgettable journey through some of the most beautiful countryside and coastal roads Norfolk has to offer.
The 1.2mile swim took place in the Holkham lake, part of the Holkham park designed by William Kent in 1729. Passing through the transition area in front of the hall the 56mile bike carried triathletes up past the obelisk and out onto a loop of the sweeping Norfolk roads which took in Dersingham and Fakenham at its extremities before heading back towards Wells next the Sea, Holkham hall and transition once more. The final leg, a 13.1mile half marathon had the triathletes run three laps of the 3000 acre park passing once again the 80 foot tall obelisk standing on the highest point in the park.
Boston Triathlon had ten individual athletes and one relay team competing in the event. It was the first time competing in a middle distance event for the relay team Boston Belles and two of the individual athletes Marcus and Lynsey. All the triathletes performed fantastically in the summer heat with the talk while packing up after the event revolving around preparation to do it all again next year.
