Set in the heart of the picturesque Gloucestershire countryside, the Cotswold113 is now in its ninth year. Boston Triathlon had, for the second year running, athletes competing in this 113Events organised Triathlon, which is held at the Ashton Keynes Water Park just south of Cirencester.
The Cotswold113 is a Middle distance triathlon totalling 112.9km in distance and has become ever more popular each year since the first event took place in 2010.
The course is formed within the Cotswolds landscape, a 787 square mile Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the second largest protected landscape in England.
The Swim was one 1.9km lap of Lake 32 in the centre of the Ashton Keynes water park. Following transition the 90km bike section left the water park and headed out of the area on a flat and fast course into some of the Cotswolds most beautiful and quiet villages. Unusually the route this year had to be somewhat modified due to a badger set under the tarmac causing a certain amount of subsidence. On returning to the water park athletes were treated to a mixture of tarmac and hard packed pathing for the 21km run that took in lake side paths as well as local village routes before finishing back in at the lakeside transition area.
Linda Rands produced an exceptional time on her first attempt at a Middle Distance Triathlon with a time of 6:17:29.9 21st (F 50-54), Ian Satchwell had to dig deep on the run as he too attempted Middle Distance for the first time, but still managed an admirable time of 6:43:55.6 112th (M 40-44)
