It was glorious weather on Sunday 30th June as Boston Triathlon travelled over to Woodhall Spa to take part in one of the most popular and long standing sprint triathlon events of the year, the OSB Events Woodhall Sprint Triathlon.
2019 was Woodhall Sprint Triathlon’s 14th year and was once again be the final event in the Midlands Sprint Triathlon Series. The event features beautiful open countryside, quiet roads and run route on country lanes with plenty of support and encouragement from the local residents.
The Triathlon is held in Jubilee Park and offers the perfect start, finish, transition and swim. Athletes started with a 400m swim in the fantastic 33m heated outdoor pool, a 22km bike course along beautiful quiet country lanes leading out towards Horncastle before heading back to Woodhall, finishing with a very simple and fairly flat 5km run.
The relay aspect of the event offers the perfect place for juniors to join with friends and family competing in the same event, it is also a great place for the novice to dip their toe into the Triathlon pond. This and the historically good weather that has graced the event combine to make it one of Boston Triathlons biggest group events of the year.
The 2018 event attracted over 850 participants and this year Boston Triathlon Club did its best to improve on this figure. The club had forty athletes competing under its banner and it was certainly a party atmosphere inside the clubs gazebos as the 18 individual competitors and 8 relay teams (consisting of another 22 athletes) waited their turn.
All those who competed had excellent fun and performed fantastically. To add to the occasion Ben Marsters secured enough points at the event to win the OSB Midlands Sprint Triathlon Series.
