It was time to put winter training into action for the athletes of Boston Triathlon Club this weekend as the multisport and road race season swung into action. The club had 34 athletes taking part in a number of different events over the course of the weekend, including 11 who donned the distinctive red triathlon suits for the very first time.
RAF Scampton Duathlon
Lincoln Triathlon hosted the RAF Scampton Duathlon on Saturday 06th April. The event offered a day full of duathlon races for every age group from Tri Start (8 years) through to Adult. All in the unique surroundings of a working RAF base.
The course takes athletes on loops around the apron of the base, home of the world famous Red Arrows.
The weather was cold, with the wind blowing off the Trent valley adding to the difficulty. Regardless the athletes did their club proud and all set benchmarks to improve on through the season.

Grantham Triathlon Sprint
On Sunday 07th April the excitement continued with the SBR hosted Grantham Triathlon, taking place at the Meres Leisure Centre in Grantham. Boston Triathlon had athletes taking part in  both the Sprint and Super Sprint distance events. The course comprised a swim in the 8 lane 25m pool, followed by a bike course comprising laps of the town & surrounding countryside with a few “undulations” along the way, finally the run took you round the part of the town immediately by the leisure centre.
Although the morning was cold the wind of the previous day had subsided when the nine athletes of Boston Tri set out to earn their Sunday lunch.
Those competing in triathlon for the first time left their nerves at the start line and threw themselves into the morning activities. Inspired by the success of the juniors the day before, all exceeded expectations. Rose Reid celebrated her birthday in style by finishing 3rd overall in her triathlon debut.
