With only 1 race left in the East Midland series what a season it’s been for the clubs junior athletes.

24th June was a short trip to Clifton Leisure centre for a triathlon event. This is a very technical cycle route through trees so bike handling skills are paramount.

The club had 7 junior triathletes in the line-up across 3 age groups, for Finlay & Jack Pittam this was their first competitive triathlon, all did very well & put in some great runs off the bike despite the very hot conditions.

Matthew Bush was on his ‘A’ game achieving a 2nd place podium position once again with that first place so very close.

Next up was Derby, once again we had some first timers taking part, Reuben & Frankie Owen, nerves were showing in the lead up to the race but once they were in the water it was all business & nerves were a distant memory.

The cycle course was tricky, on grass with a small hill & a 180 switch back, once the correct amount of laps were done it was back to transition via a very steep grass & mud hill. All got there gears sorted & powered up the hill without a problem, great stuff.

Out on the run still on grass & once again in very high temperatures, everyone dug deep & kept a good pace again to get to the finish with very respectable times.

Once again Matthew bush took 2nd place, narrowly missing out on top honours by a mere 20secs, with one race left in the series can he grasp what is so close to being his…..1st place!

Not only have we had Triathlons taking place in the East Midland Series, Ann & Grace Satchwell along with Oliver Aiken have been taking part in the Delta Simmons aquathons at Activities Away in Lincoln, 28th July see Grace Kenning & Oliver Aiken take part in the Future Outlaw triathlon in what was very windy & challenging conditions. Both these events are open water wet suit swims. This is a huge step moving from pool to open water competitive events & these 4 athletes have done themselves & the club proud.

Currently Jess Herriott is 6th in the rankings for Triathlon England in the East Midland region, again showing we have a strong junior representation.
