I have been involved in sports since my school days I was the kind of person that wanted to try most things, I settled on cross country running and football. Representing my school at all three.
My dad was a lifeguard at our local pool so it was natural for me to take on life saving at a very early age gaining the distinction award at 14 years old. I suppose that really set the pace for my sporting future.
At the tender age of 15 I joined the Royal Navy and off to HMS Ganges I went. During my time at Ganges I was selected for the final team of 12 to perform a gymnastic chair tricks routine at London’s Royal Albert Hall on Remembrance day in front of the Queen. This involved getting up at 5 am before most of the other trainees were awake and reporting to the gym training for our chair tricks routine after this we went on to do our Naval Training during the day followed by a further 1 and a half hours work in the gym.
I also represented Ganges at the Portsmouth area swimming champs at breast stroke.
After leaving the Navy I played local football in the Boston area also taking up running with Holbeach AC which became my main sport. Achieving very respectable times at 10k,
10 miles and half marathon distances.
Both my sons swam for BASC I got a lot of enjoyment out of seeing them both achieve results from their commitment and many hours of training. I also became involved in swim teaching, coaching and officiating. I did at one point do some masters swimming.
My eldest son Nick got involved in cycling and encouraged me to do the same and that’s where I am today, which I’m thoroughly enjoying doing and since retiring I am out as often as I can.
These days being involved with the Boston Triathlon Club I get a lot of enjoyment helping and supporting other people achieve their sporting goals.
Boston Triathlon has opened a new chapter in my sporting journey and just watch this space I may even take part in something with them in the future.
I believe sport has given me a lot of enjoyment throughout my life.
I know the club is moving in the right direction and I am already looking forward to the new season.
